Tuition Fee Guarantee Policy

The Tuition Fee Guarantee is a financial assurance offered to eligible graduates of the Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) and Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs. This policy outlines the terms and conditions that participants must meet in order to maintain eligibility for the Tuition Fee Guarantee within six (6) months of graduation. 

 

Note: This policy applies to all students, including internationaldomestic, and onshore graduates of the CCA and ECE programs. 

 

Eligibility Criteria 

Attendance 

Maintain a minimum attendance rate of 95% throughout the entire program (classroom instruction). Maintained 100% attendance in all practicum placements.  

 

Academic Performance 

Achieve a final grade of 75% or higher in all academic and practical components of the program. 

 

Practicum Evaluations 

Obtain satisfactory performance evaluations from all practicum placement providers, demonstrating competency and professionalism in applied roles within the program.  

 

Professional Conduct 

Display respectful and professional behaviour when interacting with diverse ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexes, as assessed by instructors, peers, and practicum supervisors.   

 

Career Services Participation 

Participants must actively engage with OICC Career Services throughout the 6-month post-graduation period or until a job offer is received. This includes: Attending job readiness and skill building workshops, participating in one-on-one sessions for resume development and interview preparation, maintaining regular communication with career advisors.

 

It is the responsibility of the college to conduct monthly check-ins with each graduate during the 6-month eligibility period to offer support, track progress, and ensure continued engagement in the job search process. 

  • All students must participate in all assigned check-ins initiated by the school’s Career Services Team. 
  • International Students: where needed, and at the discretion of the college, international student may be provided with additional support from a Licensed International Student Recruiter, to help navigate employment and settlement processes relevant to their status.  

 

Interview Participation 

  • Attend a minimum of three (3) job interviews with potential employers, including: 
  • At least one (1) interview with an employer in a rural area 
  • At least one (1) interview with a practicum placement provider 
  • At least one (1) interview completed in person 

 

Career Commitment 

Demonstrate a clear and consistent commitment to pursuing employment as either a Continuing Care Assistant or Early Childhood Educator (depending on the program graduated from), as evidenced by active job searching and employer engagement.  

 

Licensing Exam 

If applicable (i.e., in the case of the Continuing Care Assistant), successfully pass the Nova Scotia provincial licensing exam, with up to three (3) attempts allowed within the 6-month eligibility window.  

 

Job Offer Status  

Ineligibility Clause: Any participant who receives a formal job offer as a Continuing Care Assistant or Early Childhood Educator within the 6-month eligibility period is no longer eligible for the Tuition Fee Guarantee.  

 

 

Verification and Documentation 

To assess eligibility, participants must submit all relevant documentation upon request or documentation will be obtained from student records/files, including but not limited to: 

  • Attendance records 
  • Academic transcripts 
  • Practicum evaluations 
  • Proof of job interview participation 
  • Licensing exam results 
  • Correspondence with Career Services 

 

Failure to provide documentation may result in disqualification from the Tuition Fee Guarantee.  

 

 

Disqualification 

Participants may be deemed ineligible for the Tuition Fee Guarantee if:  

  • Any of the above criteria are not met 
  • Misrepresentation or falsification of documents is discovered 
  • Unprofessional conduct or disciplinary issues occurred during the program or practicum 

 

 

Refund Eligibility & Processing Time 

Participants can apply for a refund after the 6-month period. They can submit the refund within the first 14 days of the first month after the 6-month period.  

 

Processing Time 

  • Student submits required documentation to the school within the first 14 business days after the 6-month period. 
  • Within 5 business days of receipt of the documentation, the college will review the documents and confirm if student is eligible for the refund. 
  • If the student is eligible for the refund, it will be processed within 30 business days from the day the student receives approval of their eligibility from the college.

  • An appeal regarding eligibility decisions must be submitted in writing within 14 days of notification.
