Pursuing a Passion for Early Childhood Education

October 3, 2025
Portrait of an Early Childhood Education graduate featured in a student success story.

Meet Abayomi Amos, a proud graduate of Oxford International Career Colleges and one of the very first students to join our Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma program at Oxford International Career Colleges – Halifax campus.

Originally from Nigeria, Abayomi came to Canada with a clear vision: to dedicate his career to shaping young minds. His passion for children’s growth and development has been the driving force behind his journey.

“I believe the early years are the foundation for lifelong learning, and I want to play a role in guiding children’s growth, development, and love for learning.” Abayomi shares.

One of Abayomi’s favorite courses was “Play-Based Learning”, where he explored how children develop socially and emotionally through play.

“I enjoyed learning about play-based learning and how children develop socially and emotionally. Understanding how to support children through guidance strategies and meaningful play was especially valuable to me.”

Abayomi’s dedication to his studies quickly stood out to his instructors, who were consistently impressed with the quality of his work and his commitment to the profession. His efforts extended beyond the classroom when one of his assignments was published in the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Nova Scotia (AECENS) newsletter

In this feature, Abayomi addressed a common question from parents: “Why do we spend so much time playing outside?” His thoughtful response showcased his ability to connect educational theory with real-world practice, demonstrating both his knowledge and passion as a future educator.

From Gaining Confidence Through Practicum Placements and Training to Career Success

When asked about his practicum experience, Abayomi shared:

“I completed four practicum placements. I worked with preschool-aged children as well as toddlers, which gave me a wide range of experiences. A typical day involved supporting children during free play, leading small group activities, helping with routines like snack and outdoor play, and observing their learning. These placements were extremely helpful in building my confidence and understanding of how to connect theory with practice.”

At Oxford International Career Colleges, we prepare our students for success by offering a comprehensive career readiness training program through Career Canada Academy and providing a guaranteed job offer upon graduation. Abayomi’s dedication and the support he received from our program helped him secure a position in the ECE field soon after completing his studies.

“I was able to get work in the ECE field after my training. The practicum really opened the door because it allowed me to gain experience, build relationships, and demonstrate my skills.”

Abayomi’s journey reflects the very heart of our ECE program: nurturing professionals who are not only skilled but also deeply passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives. His story stands as a testament to the rewarding opportunities that await those who pursue their passion in early childhood education.

Why Continuing Care Assistants are Essential to Quality Care

Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) are vital members of the healthcare team. They provide hands-on support with daily living, comfort, and emotional care, helping ensure safety, dignity, and quality of life for patients in long-term and community settings. Without their daily presence and compassionate care, healthcare systems would struggle to meet the needs of aging and vulnerable populations.
